What is Freedom of Speech?

Freedom of speech is described as the freedom to express opinions and ideas without limitations or hindrances. It’s one’s liberty to speak without being censored or limited. The right to freedom of speech or freedom or freedom of expression is recognized in the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights), as a human right. The freedom of speech notion is a possibility of speaking freely and without censorship. Freedom of speech allows individuals to feel comfortable with having their own opinions and views on things.

What would happen if there was no freedom of speech?

Obviously, If we did not have freedom of speech, we would be an oppressed nation. Countries under a dictatorship (such as the Nazi regime) have been proven to be a failure. We would be forced to say certain things we don’t believe in and If we said the right thing we would be punished, just like a dress code is freedom of speech, if you break the dress code you can get into deep trouble. If freedom is curbed, it can give rise to armed agitations that will not only harm the nation abut also destroy the social structure.

Role Play Of Freedom Of Speech In Our Life.

Freedom of expression in the modern world is a characteristic attribute of social life as it allows people to vent their thoughts and feelings without the fear of prosecution. Moreover, it helps people to know the ideas of others and use their talent to accomplish complex tasks. In the present era, when social media has percolated to all walks of life, freedom of expression has become an important voice for the common people. Freedom of expression is an instrumental communication between the government and the public.

A story which describes the deprivation of freedom of speech

There was a time when a state was under very strict rules. In this state, nearly all aspects of life were controlled by the Government.

And the people were so afraid of these rulers that people were scared to speak against them lest they should be arrested. If they got caught who knows what would happen to him. At that time, the main communication was by letters, and people were scared to write openly. They only write well about everything. They would not write anything against the rulers, lest they should be caught up.

So there were two friends. Who lived in two different cities. They agreed on a secret code that they will communicate with and tell each other how they are really living.
The secret code was this: if the letter was written in blue ink then everything written in that letter would be True. And If the letter was written in red ink so everything written in that letter would be False.
This was their secret code.
After a few months, one friend received a letter from the other friend. When he opened the letter, it was written in blue ink. It meant everything written in it was true. He started to read the letter. His friend stated that.
The letter is shown something like that.

Dear David,
Hope you are doing well, and I am also fine here. You asked me about this city in your previous letter. I tell you everything about this city.
The city is very nice, it is peaceful, there are lots of job opportunities, no one is unemployed here. Employment is abundant. Everyone is living happily. The law and order situation is extremely good here. The education and health system is also great. There is no shortage of food items. Everyone seems to enjoy and having fun with there love ones. What is missing in this city?. This city has everything.

written in blue ink.

(As he read his friend’s letter. He got shocked that it was all written in blue ink. As he reached the end of the letter his friend further wrote.)
Well, we have everything here in this city. There are no issues. But occasionally I feel something is missing here. And that missing thing is:
“There is no red ink here”.
Your sincere,
John.

Conclusion

This is what happens when any ruler deprives the freedom of speech and freedom of expression from his state. The humiliation of any nation begins from here. Freedom of expression is a synonym with freedom of speech. It is essential to us and society.
